- Ps. 46:10, 11 (to 1st .)
10Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
11The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.
- Ps. 42:5, 6 (to :), 7-9, 10 mine (to ;), 11 hope
5Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.
6O my God, my soul is cast down within me:
... 7Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.
8Yet the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.
9I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?
10 ... mine enemies reproach me;
11 ... hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
- Eccl. 7:29 (to ;)
29Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright;
- II Kings 4:8 (to ;), 17-20, 22, 23, 25-27 2nd And (to 1st :), 32, 33, 35, 36
8¶ And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman;
... 17And the woman conceived, and bare a son at that season that Elisha had said unto her, according to the time of life.
18¶ And when the child was grown, it fell on a day, that he went out to his father to the reapers.
19And he said unto his father, My head, my head. And he said to a lad, Carry him to his mother.
20And when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died.
22And she called unto her husband, and said, Send me, I pray thee, one of the young men, and one of the asses, that I may run to the man of God, and come again.
23And he said, Wherefore wilt thou go to him to-day? it is neither new moon, nor sabbath. And she said, It shall be well.
25 ... And it came to pass, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to Gehazi his servant, Behold, yonder is that Shunammite:
26Run now, I pray thee, to meet her, and say unto her, Is it well with thee? is it well with thy husband? is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well.
27And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet:
... 32And when Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed.
33He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them twain, and prayed unto the Lord.
... 35Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.
36And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she was come in unto him, he said, Take up thy son.
- Dan. 9:20-23
20¶ And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the Lord my God for the holy mountain of my God;
21Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.
22And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.
23At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.
- Isa. 30:15 thus (to :)
15thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength:
- Isa. 32:17, 18
17And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
18And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places;
- Isa. 33:20, 22 (to ;)
20Look upon Zion, the city of our solemnities: thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet habitation, a tabernacle that shall not be taken down; not one of the stakes thereof shall ever be removed, neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken.
... 22For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king;
- Mark 7:25-30 a
25a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet:
26The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.
27But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.
28And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children’s crumbs.
29And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter.
30And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.
- Prov. 3:19-21, 23-26
19The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.
20By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.
21¶ My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:
23Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.
24When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.
25Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.
26For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

Will you bid a man let evils 21overcome him, assuring him that all misfortunes are from God, against whom mortals should not contend? ... Are material means the only refuge from fatal chances? Is there no divine permission to conquer discord of every kind with harmony, 27with Truth and Love?

Every law of matter or the body, supposed to govern 381 381:1man, is rendered null and void by the law of Life, God. Ignorant of our God-given rights, we submit to unjust 3Ignorance of our rightsdecrees, and the bias of education enforces this slavery. Be no more willing to suffer the illusion that you are sick or that some disease is develop-6ing in the system, than you are to yield to a sinful temp-tation on the ground that sin has its necessities.
- SH 384:3
3 We should relieve our minds from the depressing thought that we have transgressed a material law and must of Corporeal penaltiesnecessity pay the penalty. Let us reassure 6ourselves with the law of Love. God never punishes man for doing right, for honest labor, or for deeds of kindness, though they expose him to fatigue, 9cold, heat, contagion. If man seems to incur the penalty through matter, this is but a belief of mortal mind, not an enactment of wisdom, and man has only to enter his 12protest against this belief in order to annul it. Through this action of thought and its results upon the body, the student will prove to himself, by small beginnings, the 15grand verities of Christian Science.
- SH 396:14, 26-30
The refutation of the testimony of material sense is 15not a difficult task in view of the conceded falsity of this False testimony refutedtestimony. The refutation becomes arduous, not because the testimony of sin or disease is 18true, but solely on account of the tenacity of belief in its truth, due to the force of education and the overwhelm-ing weight of opinions on the wrong side, — all teaching 21that the body suffers, as if matter could have sensation.
Keep distinctly in 27thought that man is the offspring of God, not of man; that man is spiritual, not material; that Soul is Spirit, outside of matter, never in it, never giving the body life 30and sensation.
- SH 400:9-11, 22-23, 26
Mortal mind rules all that is mortal. ... The action of so-called mortal mind must be 27destroyed by the divine Mind to bring out the harmony of being. Without divine control there is discord, mani-fest as sin, sickness, and death.
- SH 421:11-18 (to 1st .)
If a crisis occurs in your treatment, you must treat 12the patient less for the disease and more for the mental How to treat a crisisdisturbance or fermentation, and subdue the symptoms by removing the belief that this 15chemicalization produces pain or disease. Insist vehe-mently on the great fact which covers the whole ground, that God, Spirit, is all, and that there is none beside 18Him.
- SH 445:15-21, 24
Christian Science silences human will, quiets fear with Truth and Love, and illustrates the unlabored motion 21Divine energyof the divine energy in healing the sick. The human will which maketh and worketh a lie, hiding the divine Principle of harmony, is destructive to health, and is the cause of disease rather than its cure.
- SH 97:11
The more destructive matter becomes, the 12more its nothingness will appear, until matter reaches its mortal zenith in illusion and forever disappears. The nearer a false belief approaches truth without passing 15the boundary where, having been destroyed by divine Love, it ceases to be even an illusion, the riper it becomes for destruction. The more material the belief, the more 18obvious its error, until divine Spirit, supreme in its do-main, dominates all matter, and man is found in the like-ness of Spirit, his original being.

- SH 96:12-15, 18-24, 31
12 This material world is even now becoming the arena for conflicting forces. On one side there will be discord Arena of contestand dismay; on the other side there will be 15Science and peace. ... These disturb -ances will continue until the end of error, when all discord will be swallowed up in spiritual Truth.
21 Mortal error will vanish in a moral chemicalization. This mental fermentation has begun, and will continue until all errors of belief yield to understanding. Belief is 24changeable, but spiritual understanding is changeless.
During this final conflict, wicked minds will endeavor to find means by which to accomplish more evil; but 97 97:1those who discern Christian Science will hold crime in check. They will aid in the ejection of error. They 3will maintain law and order, and cheerfully await the certainty of ultimate perfection.
- SH 557:18-27
Popular theology takes up the history of man as if he began materially right, but immediately fell into mental 24sin; whereas revealed religion proclaims the Science of Mind and its formations as being in accordance with the first chapter of the Old Testament, when God, Mind, 27spake and it was done.
From the Christian Science Hymnal:
Hymn 9: “… O wake and hear the angel-song That bids all discord cease”
Hymn 363: “… as it soars, the Gospel light Becomes effulgent more and more”
Hymn 506: “I will come before the Lord In the stillness of the morning”
