The Bible
  1. Deut. 18:13, 14

13Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God.

14For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the Lord thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.

  2. Isa. 5:19 2nd let, 25 4th his

19let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know it!

25his hand is stretched out still.

  3. I Kings 18:21-23, 26, 30, 33, 38, 39

21And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

22Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the Lord; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men.

23Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under:

... 26And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made.

... 30And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down.

... 33And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood.

... 38Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

39And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The Lord, he is the God; the Lord, he is the God.

  4. Matt. 6:19-22, 23-26 2nd If

19Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

20But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

21For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

22The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

23 ... If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

24No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

25Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

26Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

  5. Matt. 17:14-21

14And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,

15Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatic, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.

16And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

17Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.

18And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

19Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?

20And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

21Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

  6. II Pet. 3:8 beloved, 9, 13, 14, 17, 18 (to 1st .)

8beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

... 13Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

14Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

... 17Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

18But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

  7. I John 4:6

6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

  8. Ps. 51:10-12

10Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

11Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

12Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
by Mary Baker Eddy

  1. SH 330:19 God, 25-32 The

God is what the Scriptures declare Him to be, — Life, Truth, Love. Spirit is divine Principle, and divine 21The deific definitionsPrinciple is Love, and Love is Mind, and Mind is not both good and bad, for God is Mind; therefore there is in reality one Mind only, be-24cause there is one God.

The notion that both evil and good are real is a delusion of material sense, which Science annihilates. 27Evil obsoleteEvil is nothing, no thing, mind, nor power. As manifested by mankind it stands for a lie, nothing claiming to be something, — for lust, dishonesty, 30selfishness, envy, hypocrisy, slander, hate, theft, adultery, murder, dementia, insanity, inanity, devil, hell, with all the etceteras that word includes.

  2. SH 472:13-19 (to 2nd .)

    Question. — What is error?

Answer. — Error is a supposition that pleasure and 15pain, that intelligence, substance, life, are existent in mat-Evanescent materialityter. Error is neither Mind nor one of Mind’s faculties. Error is the contradiction of Truth. 18Error is a belief without understanding. Error is unreal because untrue. It is that which seemeth to be and is not.

  3. SH 346:9-13, 15-16, 19-20

9The nothingness of nothing is plain; but we need to understand that error is nothing, and that its nothingness is not saved, but must be demonstrated in 12order to prove the somethingness — yea, the allness — of Truth. ... Disbelief in error destroys error, and leads to the discernment of Truth.

We treat error through the understanding of Truth, because Truth is error’s antidote.

  4. SH 92:21-26 Until, 29

21Until the fact concerning error — namely, its nothingness — Opposing powerappears, the moral demand will not be met, 24and the ability to make nothing of error will be wanting. We should blush to call that real which is only a mistake. ... The mistake of thinking that error can be real, 30when it is merely the absence of truth, leads to belief in the superiority of error.

  5. SH 192:17-31

Moral and spiritual might belong to Spirit, who holds 18the “wind in His fists;” and this teaching accords with The one real powerScience and harmony. In Science, you can have no power opposed to God, and the physi-21cal senses must give up their false testimony. Your in-fluence for good depends upon the weight you throw into the right scale. The good you do and embody gives you 24the only power obtainable. Evil is not power. It is a mockery of strength, which erelong betrays its weakness and falls, never to rise.

27    We walk in the footsteps of Truth and Love by follow-ing the example of our Master in the understanding of divine metaphysics. Christianity is the basis of true heal-30ing. Whatever holds human thought in line with unselfed love, receives directly the divine power.

  6. SH 338:1-8

Christian Science, rightly under-stood, leads to eternal harmony. It brings to light the 3only living and true God and man as made in His like-ness; whereas the opposite belief — that man originates in matter and has beginning and end, that he is both 6soul and body, both good and evil, both spiritual and material — terminates in discord and mortality, in the error which must be destroyed by Truth.

  7. SH 97:21, 29-32

21    The broadest facts array the most falsities against themselves, for they bring error from under cover. It requires courage to utter truth; for the higher Truth 24 lifts her voice, the louder will error scream, until its in-articulate sound is forever silenced in oblivion.

Christianity is again demonstrating the Life that is 30Christianity still rejectedTruth, and the Truth that is Life, by the apos-tolic work of casting out error and healing the sick.

  8. SH 252:7-20, 26-28, 31-8

When false human beliefs learn even a little of their own falsity, they begin to disappear. A knowledge of 9Eternal man recognizederror and of its operations must precede that understanding of Truth which destroys error, until the entire mortal, material error finally disappears, 12and the eternal verity, man created by and of Spirit, is understood and recognized as the true likeness of his Maker.

15    The false evidence of material sense contrasts strikingly with the testimony of Spirit. Material sense lifts its voice with the arrogance of reality and says:

18    I am wholly dishonest, and no man knoweth it. I can cheat, lie, commit adultery, rob, murder, and I elude Testimony of sensedetection by smooth-tongued villainy. But a touch, an accident, the law of God, 27may at any moment annihilate my peace, for all my fancied joys are fatal.

        Spirit, bearing opposite testimony, saith:

I am Spirit. Man, whose senses are spiritual, is my 253 253:1likeness. He reflects the infinite understanding, for I am Infinity. The beauty of holiness, the perfection of being, 3Testimony of Soulimperishable glory, — all are Mine, for I am God. I give immortality to man, for I am Truth. I include and impart all bliss, for I am Love. 6I give life, without beginning and without end, for I am Life. I am supreme and give all, for I am Mind. I am the substance of all, because I am that I am.

  9. SH 253:15, 25

15Knowing the falsity of so-called material sense, you can assert your prerogative to overcome the belief in sin, dis-ease, or death.

Do not believe in any supposed necessity for sin, dis-ease, or death, knowing (as you ought to know) that God 27never requires obedience to a so-called material law, for no such law exists. The belief in sin and death is de-stroyed by the law of God, which is the law of Life in-30stead of death, of harmony instead of discord, of Spirit instead of the flesh.

  10. SH 295:5-8

God creates and governs the universe, including man. 6The universe is filled with spiritual ideas, which He Mortals unlike immortals evolves, and they are obedient to the Mind that makes them.

  11. SH 474:31-32

Truth destroys falsity and error, for light and darkness cannot dwell together.

  12. SH 475:2

To Truth there is no error, — all is Truth. 3To infinite Spirit there is no matter, — all is Spirit, divine Principle and its idea.
