The Bible
  1. Gen. 1:1

1In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

  2. Isa. 25:1, 4

1O Lord, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.

... 4For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.

  3. I Kings 18:41, 42 2nd And (to ;), 43-45 (to 1st .)

41And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.

    42 ... And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel;

... 43And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.

44And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.

45And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain.

  4. Jer. 17:5-8

5Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord.

6For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.

7Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.

8For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

  5. II Kings 3:5 the, 7 (to 2nd :), 9-12, 16, 17, 20

5the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.

7And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up:

... 9So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom: and they fetched a compass of seven days’ journey: and there was no water for the host, and for the cattle that followed them.

10And the king of Israel said, Alas! that the Lord hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab!

11But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the Lord, that we may inquire of the Lord by him? And one of the king of Israel’s servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah.

12And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the Lord is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.

... 16And he said, Thus saith the Lord, Make this valley full of ditches.

17For thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts.

... 20And it came to pass in the morning, when the meat offering was offered, that, behold, there came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.

  6. Job 37:14 stand, 16, 18, 23

14stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.

... 16Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?

... 18Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?

... 23Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.

  7. Luke 8:22-24

22Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.

23But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.

24And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.

  8. Luke 12:54-56

54And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is.

55And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass.

56Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?

  9. Isa. 58:11 the

11the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

  10. Hos. 13:4-6 I (to 2nd ;)

4I am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.

5I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.

    6According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted;

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
by Mary Baker Eddy

  1. SH 585:7

To material sense, earth is matter; to spiritual sense, it is a compound idea.

  2. SH 392:21

If you decide that climate or atmosphere is unhealthy, it will be so to you. Your decisions will mas-ter you, whichever direction they take.

  3. SH 507:15-21, 28-29

15    The universe of Spirit reflects the creative power of the divine Principle, or Life, which reproduces the multi-Divine propagationtudinous forms of Mind and governs the mul-18tiplication of the compound idea man. The tree and herb do not yield fruit because of any propagat-ing power of their own, but because they reflect the Mind 21 which includes all.

Creation is ever appearing, and must ever con-tinue to appear from the nature of its inexhaustible source.

  4. SH 171:4-13

Through discernment of the spiritual opposite of ma-teriality, even the way through Christ, Truth, man will 6Paradise regainedreopen with the key of divine Science the gates of Paradise which human beliefs have closed, and will find himself unfallen, upright, pure, and free, 9not needing to consult almanacs for the probabilities either of his life or of the weather, not needing to study brain-ology to learn how much of a man he is.

12    Mind’s control over the universe, including man, is no longer an open question, but is demonstrable Science.

  5. SH 257:15

The material senses and human conceptions would translate spiritual ideas into material beliefs, and would say that an anthropomorphic 18God, instead of infinite Principle, — in other words, divine Love, — is the father of the rain, “who hath begotten the drops of dew,” who bringeth “forth Mazzaroth in his sea-21son,” and guideth “Arcturus with his sons.”

  6. SH 126:16 Shall

15Shall Antagonistic questionsScience explain cause and effect as being 18both natural and spiritual? Or shall all that is beyond the cognizance of the material senses be called supernatural, and be left to the mercy of speculative 21hypotheses?

  7. SH 192:11-21

Erring power is a material belief, a blind miscalled force, 12the offspring of will and not of wisdom, of the mortal mind Human power a blind forceand not of the immortal. It is the headlong cataract, the devouring flame, the tempest’s 15breath. It is lightning and hurricane, all that is selfish, wicked, dishonest, and impure.

Moral and spiritual might belong to Spirit, who holds 18the “wind in His fists;” and this teaching accords with The one real powerScience and harmony. In Science, you can have no power opposed to God, and the physi-21cal senses must give up their false testimony.

  8. SH 354:18

18    Consistency is seen in example more than in precept. Inconsistency is shown by words without deeds, which Scientific consistencyare like clouds without rain. If our words 21fail to express our deeds, God will redeem that weakness, and out of the mouth of babes He will perfect praise. The night of materiality is far spent, and with 24the dawn Truth will waken men spiritually to hear and to speak the new tongue.

  9. SH 128:14

A knowl-15edge of the Science of being develops the latent abilities and possibilities of man. It extends the atmosphere of thought, giving mortals access to broader and higher 18realms. It raises the thinker into his native air of insight and perspicacity.

  10. SH 125:21-2 (to 1st .)

21    The seasons will come and go with changes of time and tide, cold and heat, latitude and longitude. The agri-The time and tideculturist will find that these changes cannot 24affect his crops. “As a vesture shalt Thou change them and they shall be changed.” The mariner will have dominion over the atmosphere and the great 27deep, over the fish of the sea and the fowls of the air. The astronomer will no longer look up to the stars, — he will look out from them upon the universe; and the 30florist will find his flower before its seed.

Thus matter will finally be proved nothing more than a mortal belief, wholly inadequate to affect a man 126 126:1through its supposed organic action or supposed exist-ence.

  11. SH 293:13-23

The material so-called gases and forces are counter-feits of the spiritual forces of divine Mind, whose potency 15is Truth, whose attraction is Love, whose adhesion and cohesion are Life, perpetuating the eternal facts of being. Electricity is the sharp surplus of materiality which coun -18terfeits the true essence of spirituality or truth, — the great difference being that electricity is not intelligent, while spiritual truth is Mind.

21    There is no vapid fury of mortal mind — expressed in earthquake, wind, wave, lightning, fire, bestial ferocity The counterfeit forces— and this so-called mind is self-destroyed.

  12. SH 288:10

9When the final physical and moral effects of Christian Science are fully apprehended, the conflict between truth 12and error, understanding and belief, Science and material sense, foreshadowed by the prophets and inaugurated by Jesus, will cease, and spiritual harmony reign. The 15lightnings and thunderbolts of error may burst and flash till the cloud is cleared and the tumult dies away in the distance. Then the raindrops of divinity refresh the 18earth. As St. Paul says: “There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God” (of Spirit).

  13. SH 265:5-15

Mortals must gravitate Godward, 6their affections and aims grow spiritual, — they must near the broader interpretations of being, and gain some proper sense of the infinite, — in order that sin and mortality 9may be put off.

This scientific sense of being, forsaking matter for Spirit, by no means suggests man’s absorption into Deity 12 and the loss of his identity, but confers upon man en-larged individuality, a wider sphere of thought and action, a more expansive love, a higher and more permanent 15peace.

  14. SH 129:7, 22-24

If you wish to know the spiritual fact, you can dis-Truth by inversioncover it by reversing the material fable, be the 9fable pro or con, — be it in accord with your preconceptions or utterly contrary to them.

21We must look deep Ontology neededinto realism instead of accepting only the out-24ward sense of things.
