The Bible
  1. Job 36:5, 22, 24-26 (to 2nd ,)

5Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom.

... 22Behold, God exalteth by his power: who teacheth like him?

... 24Remember that thou magnify his work, which men behold.

25Every man may see it; man may behold it afar off.

    26Behold, God is great,

  2. Ps. 62:5-8 (to 1st .), 11

5My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.

6He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.

7In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

8Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.

... 11God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.

  3. Josh. 3:1-3 Joshua, 5-10 (to 2nd ,), 13-17

Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.

    2And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the host;

3And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.

... 5And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to-morrow the Lord will do wonders among you.

6And Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.

7And the Lord said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.

8And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the water of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan.

9And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come hither, and hear the words of the Lord your God.

10And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you,

13And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an heap.

    14And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people;

15And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)

16That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.

17And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.

  4. Ps. 24:1, 2, 7-10 (to 1st .)

1The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

2For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

... 7Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

8Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.

9Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

10Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory.

  5. Ps. 33:2, 3 (to ;), 4-7, 9

2Praise the Lord with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.

    3Sing unto him a new song;

... 4For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in truth.

5He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.

6By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

7He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses.

... 9For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.

  6. John 5:1-3, 5-9, 16-20, 30

1After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

2Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.

3In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.

... 5And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.

6When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?

7The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

8Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.

9And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

16And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.

17But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

18Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

19Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

20For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.

30I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
by Mary Baker Eddy

  1. SH 228:25

There is no power apart from God. Omnipotence has all-power, and to acknowledge any other power is to dis-27Priestly pride humbledhonor God. The humble Nazarene overthrew the supposition that sin, sickness, and death have power. He proved them powerless. It should have 30humbled the pride of the priests, when they saw the dem-onstration of Christianity excel the influence of their dead faith and ceremonies.

  2. SH 20:16

“Despised and rejected of men,” returning blessing for cursing, he taught mor-18tals the opposite of themselves, even the nature of God; and when error felt the power of Truth, the scourge and the cross awaited the great Teacher. Yet he swerved not, 21well knowing that to obey the divine order and trust God, saves retracing and traversing anew the path from sin to holiness.

  3. SH 31:12-13

First in the list of Christian duties, he taught his fol-lowers the healing power of Truth and Love.

  4. SH 316:7

Christ, Truth, was demonstrated through Jesus to prove the power of 9Spirit over the flesh, — to show that Truth is made manifest by its effects upon the human mind and body, healing sickness and destroying sin.

  5. SH 52:19-30

The “man of sorrows” best understood the nothing-ness of material life and intelligence and the mighty ac-21Saviour’s predictiontuality of all-inclusive God, good. These were the two cardinal points of Mind-healing, or Christian Science, which armed him with Love. The high-24est earthly representative of God, speaking of human ability to reflect divine power, prophetically said to his disciples, speaking not for their day only but for all time: 27“He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also;” and “These signs shall follow them that believe.”

The accusations of the Pharisees were as self-contra-30Defamatory accusationsdictory as their religion.

  6. SH 110:32-14

No analogy exists between the vague hypotheses of 111 111:1agnosticism, pantheism, theosophy, spiritualism, or millenarianism and the demonstrable truths of Chris-3Mystical antagoniststian Science; and I find the will, or sensuous reason of the human mind, to be opposed to the divine Mind as expressed through divine Science.

6    Christian Science is natural, but not physical. The Science of God and man is no more supernatural than Optical illustration of Scienceis the science of numbers, though departing 9from the realm of the physical, as the Science of God, Spirit, must, some may deny its right to the name of Science. The Principle of divine metaphysics 12is God; the practice of divine metaphysics is the utiliza-tion of the power of Truth over error; its rules demon-strate its Science.

  7. SH 146:26

This healing power of Truth 27 must have been far anterior to the period in which Jesus lived. It is as ancient as “the Ancient of days.” It lives through all Life, and extends throughout 30all space.

  8. SH 149:26

Since God, divine Mind, governs all, not partially but 27supremely, predicting disease does not dignify therapeutics. Tests in our dayWhatever guides thought spiritually benefits mind and body. We need to understand the 30affirmations of divine Science, dismiss superstition, and demonstrate truth according to Christ. To-day there is hardly a city, village, or hamlet, in which are not to 150 150:1be found living witnesses and monuments to the virtue and power of Truth, as applied through this Christian 3system of healing disease.

  9. SH 231:3

Unless an ill is rightly met and fairly overcome by Truth, the ill is never conquered. If God destroys not Destruction of all evilsin, sickness, and death, they are not de-6stroyed in the mind of mortals, but seem to this so-called mind to be immortal. What God cannot do, man need not attempt. If God heals not the sick, 9they are not healed, for no lesser power equals the infinite All-power; but God, Truth, Life, Love, does heal the sick through the prayer of the righteous.

  10. SH 300:31

God is re-vealed only in that which reflects Life, Truth, Love, — 301 301:1yea, which manifests God’s attributes and power, even as the human likeness thrown upon the mirror, repeats 3the color, form, and action of the person in front of the mirror.

  11. SH 380:19

Noth-ing but the power of Truth can prevent the fear of 21error, and prove man’s dominion over error.

  12. SH 13:13

Do we gain the omnipotent ear sooner by words than by thoughts? Even if prayer is 15sincere, God knows our need before we tell Him or our fellow-beings about it. If we cherish the desire hon-estly and silently and humbly, God will bless it, and 18we shall incur less risk of overwhelming our real wishes with a torrent of words.

  13. SH 3:17-20 We

We admit 18theoretically that God is good, omnipotent, omni-Prayerful ingratitudepresent, infinite, and then we try to give information to this infinite Mind.

  14. SH 130:9

It is unwise to doubt if reality is in perfect harmony with God, divine Principle, — if Science, when understood and demonstrated, will 12destroy all discord, — since you admit that God is om-nipotent; for from this premise it follows that good and its sweet concords have all-power.

  15. SH 275:20

Divine metaphysics, as revealed to spiritual understand-21ing, shows clearly that all is Mind, and that Mind is The divine completenessGod, omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience, — that is, all power, all presence, all Science. 24Hence all is in reality the manifestation of Mind.

  16. SH 287:13

God being everywhere and all-inclusive, how can He be absent 15or suggest the absence of omnipresence and omnipotence? How can there be more than all?

  17. SH 445:15

You render the divine law of healing obscure and void, when you weigh the human in the scale with the divine, or limit in any direction of 18thought the omnipresence and omnipotence of God.

  18. SH 249:13-14

Either there is no omnipotence, or omnipotence is the only power.

  19. SH 331:18 God

God is individual, incorporeal. He is divine Prin-ciple, Love, the universal cause, the only creator, and The universal causethere is no other self-existence. He is all-21inclusive, and is reflected by all that is real and eternal and by nothing else. He fills all space, and it is impossible to conceive of such omnipresence and in-24dividuality except as infinite Spirit or Mind. Hence all is Spirit and spiritual.
