The  Bible
  1. Luke 2:41-43, 45-49, 52

41Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.

42And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.

43And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.

... 45And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.

46And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.

47And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

48And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.

49And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?

... 52And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

  2. John 2:1 there, 3, 5, 6 (to 2nd ,), 7-9 (to :), 9 6th the, 10

there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:

... 3And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.

... 5His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

6And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews,

... 7Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.

8And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.

9When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: ... the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,

10And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.

  3. Matt. 4:1, 3-10

1Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

... 3And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

4But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

5Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

6And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

    8Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

9And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

10Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

  4. Matt. 23:9

9And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

  5. Rom. 8:5 they, 6 2nd to

they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

... to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

  6. John 3:3 Except, 4 How (to 1st ?), 5-8 Except

Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

... How can a man be born when he is old?

... Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

8The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

  7. John 5:39

39Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

  8. Eccl. 7:8-10 3rd the (to ?), 12 the, 18, 29

the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

9Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.

10Say not thou, What is the cause that the former days were better than these?

the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.

... 18It is good that thou shouldest take hold of this; yea, also from this withdraw not thine hand: for he that feareth God shall come forth of them all.

29Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.

  9. Luke 10:25-28

25And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

26He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?

27And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

28And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.

  10. Matt. 5:27, 28, 43-48

27Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

28But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

43Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

    44But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

45That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

46For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

47And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

48Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

  11. Matt. 5:20-22

20For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

21Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:

22But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

  12. Matt. 6:24 Ye, 25 Take (to .), 33 seek (to ;)

Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

... Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on.

    ... seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;

  13. John 4:46-50 (to 1st .)

46So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.

47When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judæa into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.

48Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.

49The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.

50Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth.

  14. John 3:12, 13 (to 2nd ,)

12If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?

13And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven,

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
by Mary Baker Eddy

  1. SH 473:15

Jesus is the human man, and Christ is the divine idea; hence the duality of Jesus the Christ.

  2. SH 30:5-25

Born of a woman, Jesus’ advent in the flesh partook 6partly of Mary’s earthly condition, although he was en-Jesus the way-showerdowed with the Christ, the divine Spirit, with-out measure. This accounts for his struggles 9in Gethsemane and on Calvary, and this enabled him to be the mediator, or way-shower, between God and men. Had his origin and birth been wholly apart from mortal 12usage, Jesus would not have been appreciable to mortal mind as “the way.”

Rabbi and priest taught the Mosaic law, which said: 15“An eye for an eye,” and “Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed.” Not so did Jesus, the new executor for God, present the divine law of Love, 18which blesses even those that curse it.

As the individual ideal of Truth, Christ Jesus came to rebuke rabbinical error and all sin, sickness, and death, — 21Rebukes helpfulto point out the way of Truth and Life. This ideal was demonstrated throughout the whole earthly career of Jesus, showing the difference between 24the offspring of Soul and of material sense, of Truth and of error.

  3. SH 19:6, 29

Jesus aided in recon-ciling man to God by giving man a truer sense of Love, the divine Principle of Jesus’ teachings, and this truer 9sense of Love redeems man from the law of matter, sin, and death by the law of Spirit, — the law of divine Love.

Jesus urged the commandment, “Thou shalt have no 30Jesus’ sinless careerother gods before me,” which may be ren-dered: Thou shalt have no belief of Life as mortal; thou shalt not know evil, for there is one Life, — 20 20:1even God, good. He rendered “unto Cæsar the things which are Cæsar’s; and unto God the things that are 3God’s.” He at last paid no homage to forms of doctrine or to theories of man, but acted and spake as he was moved, not by spirits but by Spirit.

  4. SH 28:15-18

Neither the origin, the character, nor the work of Jesus was generally understood. Not a single compo-Misleading conceptionsnent part of his nature did the material 18world measure aright.

  5. SH 117:15-27

Our Master taught spirituality by simili-The miracles of Jesustudes and parables. As a divine student he unfolded God to man, illustrating and demon-18strating Life and Truth in himself and by his power over the sick and sinning. Human theories are inadequate to interpret the divine Principle involved in the miracles 21(marvels) wrought by Jesus and especially in his mighty, crowning, unparalleled, and triumphant exit from the flesh.

24    Evidence drawn from the five physical senses relates Opacity of the sensessolely to human reason; and because of opaci-ty to the true light, human reason dimly re-27flects and feebly transmits Jesus’ works and words.

  6. SH 25:13

Jesus taught the way of Life by demonstration, that we may understand how this divine Principle heals 15Effective triumphthe sick, casts out error, and triumphs over death. Jesus presented the ideal of God better than could any man whose origin was less spiritual. By 18his obedience to God, he demonstrated more spiritu-ally than all others the Principle of being. Hence the force of his admonition, “If ye love me, keep my com-21mandments.”

  7. SH 26:10

The Christ was the Spirit which Jesus implied in his own statements: “I am the way, the truth, and the life;” 12Christ’s demonstration“I and my Father are one.” This Christ, or divinity of the man Jesus, was his divine nature, the godliness which animated him. Divine Truth, 15Life, and Love gave Jesus authority over sin, sickness, and death. His mission was to reveal the Science of celestial being, to prove what God is and what He does 18for man.

  8. SH 476:32

Jesus beheld in Science the per-477477:1fect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour 3saw God’s own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick. Thus Jesus taught that the kingdom of God is intact, universal, and that man is pure and holy. 6Man is not a material habitation for Soul; he is himself spiritual. Soul, being Spirit, is seen in nothing imperfect nor material.

  9. SH 41:28

The truth taught by Jesus, the elders scoffed at. Why? Because it demanded more than they were willing 30to practise. It was enough for them to believe in a national Deity; but that belief, from their time to ours, has never made a disciple who could cast out evils and heal the sick.

  10. SH 20:6-8

To the ritualistic priest and hypocritical Pharisee Jesus said, “The publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.”

  11. SH 6:29-31

It is believed by many that a certain magistrate, 30who lived in the time of Jesus, left this record: “His rebuke is fearful.”

  12. SH 300:1-3

Human logic is awry when it attempts to draw correct spiritual conclusions regarding life from 3Old and new manmatter.

  13. SH 365:7

The benign thought of Jesus, finding utterance in such words as “Take no thought for your life,” would heal 9the sick, and so enable them to rise above the supposed necessity for physical thought-taking and doctoring; but if the unselfish affections be lacking, and common 12sense and common humanity are disregarded, what men-tal quality remains, with which to evoke healing from the outstretched arm of righteousness?

  14. SH 43:28-4

The Science Jesus taught and lived must triumph over all material beliefs about life, substance, and intelli-30gence, and the multitudinous errors growing from such beliefs.

Love must triumph over hate. Truth and Life must 44 44:1seal the victory over error and death, before the thorns can be laid aside for a crown, the benediction follow, 3“Well done, good and faithful servant,” and the suprem-acy of Spirit be demonstrated.

  15. SH 27:10-13

That Life is God, Jesus proved by his reappearance after the crucifixion in strict accordance with his scien-12Living templetific statement: “Destroy this temple [body], and in three days I [Spirit] will raise it up.”

  16. SH 410:4-7

“This is life eternal,” says Jesus, — is, not shall be; and then he defines everlasting life as a present knowledge 6Life eternal and presentof his Father and of himself, — the knowledge of Love, Truth, and Life.
