The Bible
  1. Ps. 91:9-11

    9Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

10There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

11For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

  2. Rev. 1:1

1The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

  3. Rev. 5:1-4 I

I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.

2And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?

3And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.

4And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.

  4. Rev. 10:1, 2 (to :), 8-10 (to ;), 11

1And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:

2And he had in his hand a little book open:

... 8And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth.

9And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey.

    10And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up;

... 11And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.

  5. Rev. 12:1, 3, 4 (to :), 7-10, 12 (to 1st .)

1And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:

... 3And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

4And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth:

... 7And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,

8And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.

9And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

10And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

... 12Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them.

  6. Rev. 21:1-5 (to 1st .), 10, 22-24

1And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

2And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

3And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

4And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

5And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new.

... 10And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,

... 22And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

23And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

24And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.

  7. Rev. 22:6 the, 16

the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.

... 16I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
by Mary Baker Eddy

  1. SH 581:4

Angels. God’s thoughts passing to man; spiritual intuitions, pure and perfect; the inspiration of goodness, 6purity, and immortality, counteracting all evil, sensuality, and mortality.

  2. SH 298:28-1

Angels are pure thoughts from God, winged with Truth and Love, no matter what their indi-30vidualism may be. Human conjecture confers upon angels its own forms of thought, marked with superstitious out-lines, making them human creatures with suggestive 299 299:1feathers; but this is only fancy.

  3. SH 512:8

Spirit is symbolized by strength, presence, and power, 9and also by holy thoughts, winged with Love. These an-Seraphic symbolsgels of His presence, which have the holiest charge, abound in the spiritual atmosphere of 12Mind, and consequently reproduce their own character-istics. Their individual forms we know not, but we do know that their natures are allied to God’s nature; and 15spiritual blessings, thus typified, are the externalized, yet subjective, states of faith and spiritual understanding.

  4. SH 174:9-14

The footsteps of thought, rising above material stand-points, are slow, and portend a long night to the traveller; Rise of thoughtbut the angels of His presence — the spiritual 12intuitions that tell us when “the night is far spent, the day is at hand” — are our guardians in the gloom.

  5. SH 548:12

Earth has little light or joy for mortals before Life is spiritually learned. Every agony of mortal error helps error to destroy error, and so aids the apprehension 15of immortal Truth. This is the new birth going on hourly, by which men may entertain angels, the true ideas of God, the spiritual sense of being.

  6. SH 566:29-8

The Old Testament assigns to the angels, God’s divine 30Angelic officesmessages, different offices. Michael’s charac-teristic is spiritual strength. He leads the hosts of heaven against the power of sin, Satan, and 567 567:1fights the holy wars. Gabriel has the more quiet task of imparting a sense of the ever-presence of ministering 3Love. These angels deliver us from the depths. Truth and Love come nearer in the hour of woe, when strong faith or spiritual strength wrestles and prevails through 6the understanding of God. The Gabriel of His presence has no contests. To infinite, ever-present Love, all is Love, and there is no error, no sin, sickness, nor death.

  7. SH 558:9-13

This angel or message which comes from God, clothed with a cloud, prefigures divine Science. To mortal sense The new EvangelScience seems at first obscure, abstract, and 12dark; but a bright promise crowns its brow. When understood, it is Truth’s prism and praise.

  8. SH 559:1

This angel had in his hand “a little book,” open for all to read and understand. Did this same book contain 3Truth’s volumethe revelation of divine Science, the “right foot” or dominant power of which was upon the sea, — upon elementary, latent error, the source of 6all error’s visible forms? The angel’s left foot was upon the earth; that is, a secondary power was exercised upon visible error and audible sin. The “still, small voice” 9of scientific thought reaches over continent and ocean to the globe’s remotest bound. The inaudible voice of Truth is, to the human mind, “as when a lion roareth.” 12It is heard in the desert and in dark places of fear. It arouses the “seven thunders” of evil, and stirs their latent forces to utter the full diapason of secret tones. Then is 15the power of Truth demonstrated, — made manifest in the destruction of error. Then will a voice from harmony cry: “Go and take the little book. . . . Take it, and eat 18it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey.” Mortals, obey the heavenly evangel. Take divine Science. Read this book from 21beginning to end. Study it, ponder it. It will be indeed sweet at its first taste, when it heals you; but murmur not over Truth, if you find its digestion bitter. When you 24approach nearer and nearer to this divine Principle, when you eat the divine body of this Principle, — thus partak-ing of the nature, or primal elements, of Truth and Love, 27 — do not be surprised nor discontented because you must share the hemlock cup and eat the bitter herbs; for the Israelites of old at the Paschal meal thus prefigured this 30perilous passage out of bondage into the El Dorado of faith and hope.

  9. SH 574:10-30

This ministry of Truth, this message from divine Love, carried John away in spirit. It exalted him till he be-12Vials of wrath and consolationcame conscious of the spiritual facts of being and the “New Jerusalem, coming down from God, out of heaven,” — the spiritual outpour-15ing of bliss and glory, which he describes as the city which “lieth foursquare.” The beauty of this text is, that the sum total of human misery, represented by 18the seven angelic vials full of seven plagues, has full compensation in the law of Love. Note this, — that the very message, or swift-winged thought, which poured 21forth hatred and torment, brought also the experience which at last lifted the seer to behold the great city, the four equal sides of which were heaven-bestowed and 24heaven-bestowing.

Think of this, dear reader, for it will lift the sack-cloth from your eyes, and you will behold the soft-27Spiritual wedlockwinged dove descending upon you. The very circumstance, which your suffering sense deems wrathful and afflictive, Love can make an angel 30entertained unawares.

  10. SH 567:9-10

Against Love, the dragon warreth not long, for he is killed by the divine Principle.

  11. SH 264:24

Spiritual living and blessedness are the only evidences, by which we can recognize true existence and feel the unspeakable peace 27which comes from an all-absorbing spiritual love.

  12. SH 249:6-10

Let us feel the divine energy of Spirit, bringing us into Renewed selfhoodnewness of life and recognizing no mortal nor material power as able to destroy. Let us re -9joice that we are subject to the divine “powers that be.” Such is the true Science of being.
