The BibleWords printed below from the King James Version, and read during the meeting from the New English Bible
  1. Ps. 139:1, 8 (to :)

1O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.

... 8If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there:

  2. Gen. 5:21-24 Enoch

Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah:

22And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:

23And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:

24And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

  3. Heb. 11:5

5By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

  4. II Kings 2:1, 2 (to 2nd .), 5, 7-15

1And it came to pass, when the Lord would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

2And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the Lord hath sent me to Beth–el. And Elisha said unto him, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee.

... 5And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Lord will take away thy master from thy head to-day? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.

... 7And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan.

8And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.

9And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.

10And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.

11And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

12And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.

    13He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;

14And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the Lord God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.

15And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

  5. Mark 9:2-8 Jesus

Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.

3And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.

4And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.

5And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

6For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid.

7And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

8And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.

  6. Luke 24:45-52

45Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

46And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

47And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

48And ye are witnesses of these things.

49And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

50And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

51And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.

52And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:

  7. Acts 1:1, 2, 8 ye, 9

1The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

2Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

... ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

  8. John 3:13 no

no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
by Mary Baker Eddy

  1. SH 292:31

In his resurrection and ascension, Jesus showed that a mortal man is not the real essence of manhood, and 293 293:1that this unreal material mortality disappears in presence of the reality.

  2. SH 509:4

Our Master reappeared to his students, — to their apprehension he 6rose from the grave, — on the third day of his ascending thought, and so presented to them the certain sense of eternal Life.

  3. SH 334:10 The

The invisible Christ was imperceptible to the so-called personal senses, whereas Jesus appeared as a 12The Son’s dualitybodily existence. This dual personality of the unseen and the seen, the spiritual and mate-rial, the eternal Christ and the corporeal Jesus manifest 15in flesh, continued until the Master’s ascension, when the human, material concept, or Jesus, disappeared, while the spiritual self, or Christ, continues to exist in 18the eternal order of divine Science, taking away the sins of the world, as the Christ has always done, even before the human Jesus was incarnate to mortal eyes.

  4. SH 46:13-17, 20-7

The Master said plainly that physique was not Spirit, and after his resurrection he proved to the physical senses 15Corporeality and Spiritthat his body was not changed until he himself ascended, — or, in other words, rose even higher in the understanding of Spirit, God.

Jesus’ unchanged physical condition after what seemed 21to be death was followed by his exaltation above all ma-Spiritual ascensionterial conditions; and this exaltation explained his ascension, and revealed unmistakably a 24probationary and progressive state beyond the grave. Jesus was “the way;” that is, he marked the way for all men. In his final demonstration, called the ascen-27sion, which closed the earthly record of Jesus, he rose above the physical knowledge of his disciples, and the material senses saw him no more.

30     His students then received the Holy Ghost. By this is meant, that by all they had witnessed and suffered, they were roused to an enlarged understanding of divine Sci-4747:1ence, even to the spiritual interpretation and discernment of Jesus’ teachings and demonstrations, which gave them 3Pentecostal powera faint conception of the Life which is God. They no longer measured man by material sense. After gaining the true idea of their glorified Master, 6they became better healers, leaning no longer on matter, but on the divine Principle of their work.

  5. SH 34:18

Through all the disciples experienced, they became more spiritual and understood better what the Master had Fellowship with Christtaught. His resurrection was also their resur-21rection. It helped them to raise themselves and others from spiritual dulness and blind belief in God into the perception of infinite possibilities. They needed this 24quickening, for soon their dear Master would rise again in the spiritual realm of reality, and ascend far above their apprehension. As the reward for his faithfulness, 27he would disappear to material sense in that change which has since been called the ascension.

  6. SH 313:30

To show that the substance of himself was Spirit and the body 314 314:1no more perfect because of death and no less material until the ascension (his further spiritual exaltation), 3Jesus waited until the mortal or fleshly sense had re-linquished the belief of substance-matter, and spiritual sense had quenched all earthly yearnings. Thus he found 6the eternal Ego, and proved that he and the Father were inseparable as God and His reflection or spiritual man. Our Master gained the solution of being, demonstrating 9the existence of but one Mind without a second or equal.

  7. SH 261:27

Fixing your gaze on the realities supernal, you will rise to the spiritual consciousness of being, even as the bird which has burst from the egg and preens its wings for a 30skyward flight.

  8. SH 585:9

Elias. Prophecy; spiritual evidence opposed to mate-rial sense; Christian Science, with which can be discerned the spiritual fact of whatever the material senses behold; 12the basis of immortality.

  9. SH 60:29-9

Soul has infinite resources with which to bless mankind, 30and happiness would be more readily attained and would be more secure in our keeping, if sought in Soul. Higher enjoyments alone can satisfy the cravings of immortal 61 61:1man. We cannot circumscribe happiness within the limits of personal sense. The senses confer no real 3enjoyment.

The good in human affections must have ascendency over the evil and the spiritual over the animal, or happi-6Ascendency of goodness will never be won. The attainment of this celestial condition would improve our progeny, diminish crime, and give higher aims to ambi-9tion.

  10. SH 407:17

Let the slave of wrong desire learn the lessons of Chris-18tian Science, and he will get the better of that desire, and ascend a degree in the scale of health, happiness, and existence.

  11. SH 189:18

The human mortal mind, by an inevitable perversion, makes all things start from the lowest instead of from the highest 21mortal thought. The reverse is the case with all the formations of the immortal divine Mind. They proceed from the divine source; and so, in tracing them, we con-24stantly ascend in infinite being.

  12. SH 265:24-28

The aspiration after Blessings from painheavenly good comes even before we discover what belongs to wisdom and Love. The loss 27of earthly hopes and pleasures brightens the ascending path of many a heart.

  13. SH 509:24

The periods of spiritual ascension are the days and seasons of Mind’s creation, in which beauty, sublimity, purity, and holiness 27 — yea, the divine nature — appear in man and the uni-verse never to disappear.
