The Bible
  1. I Thess. 4:9 as

as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.

  2. Heb. 13:1

    1Let brotherly love continue.

  3. I Sam. 18:1 the, 3, 6-8 (to ;), 12

the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

... 3Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

6And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of music.

7And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.

    8And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him;

12And Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with him, and was departed from Saul.

  4. I Sam. 19:1-3

1And Saul spake to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David.

2But Jonathan Saul’s son delighted much in David: and Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning, and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself:

3And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou art, and I will commune with my father of thee; and what I see, that I will tell thee.

  5. I Sam. 20:18-22, 35, 36, 39, 41, 42 (to 1st .)

18Then Jonathan said to David, To-morrow is the new moon: and thou shalt be missed, because thy seat will be empty.

19And when thou hast stayed three days, then thou shalt go down quickly, and come to the place where thou didst hide thyself when the business was in hand, and shalt remain by the stone Ezel.

20And I will shoot three arrows on the side thereof, as though I shot at a mark.

21And, behold, I will send a lad, saying, Go, find out the arrows. If I expressly say unto the lad, Behold, the arrows are on this side of thee, take them; then come thou: for there is peace to thee, and no hurt; as the Lord liveth.

22But if I say thus unto the young man, Behold, the arrows are beyond thee; go thy way: for the Lord hath sent thee away.

35And it came to pass in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little lad with him.

36And he said unto his lad, Run, find out now the arrows which I shoot. And as the lad ran, he shot an arrow beyond him.

... 39But the lad knew not any thing: only Jonathan and David knew the matter.

41And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded.

42And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of the Lord, saying, The Lord be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed for ever.

  6. I Sam. 31:1, 6

1Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

... 6So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armour-bearer, and all his men, that same day together.

  7. II Sam. 1:11, 12

11Then David took hold on his clothes, and rent them; and likewise all the men that were with him:

12And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the Lord, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.

  8. II Sam. 4:4

4And Jonathan, Saul’s son, had a son that was lame of his feet. He was five years old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel, and his nurse took him up, and fled: and it came to pass, as she made haste to flee, that he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.

  9. II Sam. 9:1, 2 (to 1st .), 3 Ziba, 6 (to 1st .), 7 (to ;), 11 As

1And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?

2And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba.

... Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet.

6Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his face, and did reverence.

    7And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father;

As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table, as one of the king’s sons.

  10. Rom. 12:10 (to 1st ;)

    10Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love;

  11. I Pet. 2:17 Love (to 2nd .)

    Love the brotherhood.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
by Mary Baker Eddy

  1. SH 518:15-19

The rich in spirit help the poor in one grand brotherhood, all having the same Principle, or Father; and blessed is that man who seeth 18his brother’s need and supplieth it, seeking his own in another’s good.

  2. SH 469:30-5

With 470 470:1one Father, even God, the whole family of man would be brethren; and with one Mind and that God, or good, 3the brotherhood of man would consist of Love and Truth, and have unity of Principle and spiritual power which constitute divine Science.

  3. SH 467:9-13

It should be thoroughly understood that all men have one Mind, one God and Father, one Life, Truth, and Love. Mankind will become perfect in proportion as this fact 12becomes apparent, war will cease and the true brother-hood of man will be established.

  4. SH 276:4-9

When the divine precepts are understood, they unfold the foundation of fellowship, 6in which one mind is not at war with another, but all have one Spirit, God, one intelligent source, in accordance with the Scriptural command: “Let this Mind be in you, 9which was also in Christ Jesus.”

  5. SH 340:23

One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; con-24stitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfils the Scripture, “Love thy neighbor as thyself;” annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry, — whatever is wrong in 27social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes; equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed.

  6. SH 224:22

A higher and more practical Christianity, demonstrat-ing justice and meeting the needs of mortals in sickness 24and in health, stands at the door of this age, knocking for admission. Will you open or close the door upon this angel visitant, who cometh in the quiet of meekness, as he 27came of old to the patriarch at noonday?

  7. SH 387:27

The history of Christianity furnishes sublime proofs of the supporting influence and protecting power bestowed Christian historyon man by his heavenly Father, omnipotent 30Mind, who gives man faith and understanding whereby to defend himself, not only from temptation, but from bodily suffering.

  8. SH 444:27

Immortals, or God’s children in divine Science, are one harmonious family; but mortals, or the “children of men” in material 30sense, are discordant and ofttimes false brethren.

  9. SH 541:16

The erroneous belief that life, substance, and intelli-gence can be material ruptures the life and brotherhood 18of man at the very outset.

  10. SH 8:28-14

We should examine ourselves and learn what is the affection and purpose of the heart, for in this way 30Searching the heartonly can we learn what we honestly are. If a friend informs us of a fault, do we listen pa-tiently to the rebuke and credit what is said? Do we not 9 9:1rather give thanks that we are “not as other men”? During many years the author has been most grateful 3for merited rebuke. The wrong lies in unmerited cen-sure, — in the falsehood which does no one any good.

The test of all prayer lies in the answer to these 6questions: Do we love our neighbor better because of Summit of aspirationthis asking? Do we pursue the old selfish-ness, satisfied with having prayed for some-9thing better, though we give no evidence of the sin-cerity of our requests by living consistently with our prayer? If selfishness has given place to kindness, 12we shall regard our neighbor unselfishly, and bless them that curse us; but we shall never meet this great duty simply by asking that it may be done.

  11. SH 272:3-8

The spiritual sense of truth must be gained before Truth can be understood. This sense is assimilated only Spirituality of Scriptureas we are honest, unselfish, loving, and meek. 6In the soil of an “honest and good heart” the seed must be sown; else it beareth not much fruit, for the swinish element in human nature uproots it.

  12. SH 365:31

The poor suf-fering heart needs its rightful nutriment, such as peace, 366 366:1patience in tribulation, and a priceless sense of the dear Father’s loving-kindness.

  13. SH 571:15

At all times and under all circumstances, overcome evil with good. Know thyself, and God will supply The armor of divinitythe wisdom and the occasion for a victory 18over evil. Clad in the panoply of Love, human hatred cannot reach you. The cement of a higher humanity will unite all interests in the one 21divinity.

  14. SH 239:16

To ascertain our progress, we must learn where our affections are placed and whom we acknowledge and 18Standpoint revealedobey as God. If divine Love is becoming nearer, dearer, and more real to us, matter is then submitting to Spirit. The objects we pursue and 21the spirit we manifest reveal our standpoint, and show what we are winning.

  15. SH 99:21

I love mankind, and shall continue to labor and to endure.

  16. SH 55:16-21

My weary hope tries to realize that happy day, when man shall 18recognize the Science of Christ and love his neighbor as himself, — when he shall realize God’s omnipotence and the healing power of the divine Love in what it has done 21and is doing for mankind.

  17. SH 113:5-6

The vital part, 6the heart and soul of Christian Science, is Love.
